Tuezday Trauma

Here's your "Breaking News" and Notable Sports Breaks in the Past Week:

Victoria Grover
Victoria Grover, a medical practitioner and outdoor enthusiast from northern Maine, suffered a broken leg while hiking in the Utah high desert country and miraculously survived a 4-day ordeal.  She underwent surgery and is expected to make a complete recovery.  The break occurred after jumping off a 4-foot ledge about 2 miles from the trailhead.  We’ve reached out to Victoria and are hoping to send her a CastCoverZ! care package to help her feel better, so she heals better!  Take good care Victoria!

In Baseball:

Mike Pelfrey

The New York Mets incurred some bad luck this past week.  Right-handed starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey is having Tommy John surgery, today, to repair a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.  His recovery time will be 12 months.  Pelfrey will be a free agent next winter.

In addition, left-fielder Jason Bay ended up with a rib fracture on his left side, after making a diving catch during a game. His MRI showed a non-displaced fracture.  It has not been announced when Bay will return.  Wishing Pelfrey and Bay speedy recoveries!
Jason Bay

 In Hockey:

Sidney Crosby

Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins center and NHL star, admitted he has been hiding the fact that he broke a bone in his left foot on March 16th, blocking a shot in a game.  His reasoning for hiding the injury was to keep opponents from exploiting a vulnerability. Luckily, his foot will not require surgery.  Rest up Sidney and we’ll see you next season!

In Basketball:

Caron Butler

During Game 1 of Los Angeles’ opening series against the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers forward Caron Butler broke his left (non-shooting) hand when it got caught in a Grizzlies’ jersey.  An X-Ray confirmed that he fractured the fifth metacarpal and  will be out 4-6 weeks.  Hang in there Caron!

Derrick Rose

The Chicago Bulls suffered a big setback just as the playoffs are kicking into gear.  Superstar point guard Derrick Rose is unfortunately out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL, which will sideline him for 6-9 months.  Surgery has yet to be scheduled.  Good luck Derrick!
